Of course our timber sash windows and doors is an important stripe of ours, whereby offering replication to match timber products, custom made on request. The turn around time for these is generally 7-10 business days due to set up times and high-detail joinery process.
General Refurbishment
For sash windows which require attention, we offer a basic paint prep, belt-sand, re-cording and re-weighting or spiral balance mechanism replacement, new timber beading, priming exposed timber and painting on request. Our painting services are an important aspect as although we pride on our carpentry, we understand usually the windows are painted shut. Given we have the window frames out, it is an opportunity to paint them properly yet being sympathetic to where the paint will likely stick or cause friction. As we know their function well, our on-site painting services help with this aspect. It also helps ensure our services are as well left them and not undone by heavy painting. We have the original paint colour matched for your convenience. In addition ask about our draft seal products as we can further add the draft seal rebate to ensure a tighter fit when closed to reduce rattle noise.
Rot-Stop & Repairs
Generally older productions of timber supply have a great longevity and require attention and paint maintenance only. However at times, moisture creeps into the mortice and tenon joins of the frames and therefore for best results we offer our replication supply and install. Alongside this rot, typically the external window sills and side jambs have some rot and we offer a cut and replace method. Relying little on filler compounds, cut and replacing timber is a great long-term method, minimising joins and priming to seal the entire area. As the rot is cut, it stops the spreading process through the timber. We use this same method not only for sash and sills, but for all rot found in timber. Cut, replace and/or remould, seal and prime.
Glass Supply & Glazing
We also cater for glazing services, mostly involving glass upgrades requiring window carpentry to the sash frames. We offer a vast range of glass, mostly supplying Veridian ® products such as laminated products and double-glazing. Generally the original glass is hand-blown 3mm clear float panes, hand puttied. Upgrading glass allows for desired benefits to be achieved like greater insulation, sound-proofing and higher security. In this process we create further depth in the sash windows to allow for easy fit of the new thicker glass, going almost unnoticed from the previous 3mm pane setting. It is important new glass units are fitted correctly so it fits secure within the frame.
Other glazing services include general glass re-glazing, lead lighting (by others) and privacy opaque glass upgrades. We also have access to hand-blown specialty etched glass for original Victorian doors however this supply is upon appreciated and is limited.
Roofing Gables and Heritage Features
Because we enjoy our period works, gable projects and window canopy’s have become a common request due to their height and detail complexities. We have access to many decorative timber pieces for recreation or replacement. Rot can occur within scotia below tile pointing and facia/barge board ends. Commonly this is due to difficult painting maintenance and therefore moisture damage or guttering flow issues. Before fixing your tiling and guttering, employ our services to cut and replace the rotted timber. We again minimamlise joins, supply and safety install new design primed timber and stucco moulding if required. Again we offer painting services to quickly further protect the timber and it saves on doubling up on access equipment costs.

With regards to commercial heritage projects it is important that they’re managed and completed correctly, and therefore we feel our methods provide assurance of quality to meet these demands. We see a lot of painted and stressed fixings and hardware, and for a small amount we supply and install our selection or your chosen hardware. After the refurbishment and painting, victorian fixings can still have the appearance of work quirks and interesting details but can function properly.
